Why I write…

I have not posted in ages… Life has been so incredibly busy and I have to confess I have not had motivation to write.

But I miss it.

I love to write and am going to start writing again. I love what writing does for me. It gives me a creative outlet, allows my mind to release the stress that builds up from my job and allows me to connect with someone.

I hope that something I will write on here will connect with someone, or be important to them in some way.

In three months {and two days}, us lovebirds get married. As much as we want the celebration and happy day with our family and friends — we cannot wait to just ‘be’ married and continue to build + nuture the life we are creating together.

I am working on some posts… and am hoping to keep it fairly consistent.

In the meantime, you can check out our instagram feed – foodielovebird … say hello; follow us to see regular shots of our life; food and more.

Currently enjoying miniature dachshund cuddles from Vader our beautiful pup. Hope you are keeping warm and enjoying the first winter weekend, thanks for visiting the nest 🐦🐦🐦

Doxie Dash

Last year after buying our house we decided to get a puppy. Someone we knew had some miniature dachshund puppies and so we decided to pick one. On my birthday in December we got to go and take one home. We chose a red {tan in colour), boy puppy and named him Vader.

Our little furbaby. He is still very small, nine months old and weighs less than four kilos! He is a complete pocket rocket. Small in body but big in spirit.

Vader has melted our hearts and we are so glad that we picked a minature dachshund, he is a really good fit for my fiancè and I. The breed is so affectionate + cuddly (I am currently getting snuggles from Vader), cheeky + playful. Everyday is adventure!

I love to have a cute little face to come home to and always be excited that I am around. He loves to play, cuddle, eat carrot and the occasional piece of popcorn.

If you would like to see more furry doxie shots of our gorgeous Vader – click on to his instagram page VadertheSausageDog … speaking of instagram, we have one for the blog (@twolovebirdsnestblog), so check it out for daily photos and home/lifestyle/food inspiration. Our home, our sanctuary

“I want to buy my first home before I turn 30″…

This statement is one I made on my first date with my fiancé. We were connecting over dreams and life goals in a cosy coffee + dessert meet up. As we got to talking we realised that it was a mutual goal. I am not sure why 30 was the magic number {we are different ages, I am older by two years} but I did think it was pretty cool to have the same fundamental goal.

If I may flash forward to just under a year and a half from that cute date, it seems amazing that we were engaged and coming up on our settlement date.We had been looking at house for a few months – many of which were hidden horrors {loose carpet over plywood floors; cracked giprock; a garage that had been sold to the neighbour but opened into what would be our yard} but were shown to us as if they were amazing opportunities!

We were losing hope and after a trip to the USA + Mexico we came back home with focus and determination. That 2016 would be the year we purchased a house. One month later we walked through our house, it is cosy, has character and is on a great block. We knew it was meant for us from the moment we walked in the front door and had an offer accepted that afternoon. Meant to be!

Joel and I decided we wanted a house that is a home, we want our guests to feel comfortable and happy while they are here. Family and friends have commented on how they feel like they ‘come home’ when they are over. I love that. I grew up with a very open, welcoming, loving and music filled home – it makes me proud to be creating the same feeling.
The best thing is that our home has become our sanctuary. Once we walk in the door, we feel relaxed, safe and loved. We can be ourselves, unwind from the day, play or snuggle with our puppy and enjoy time together.

I think it is so important with how busy and full on life can get, that home is a place of comfort and happiness.

Welcome to the Nest…

It can be daunting trying something new but I am actually so excited to be starting to write and publish posts for my new blog, Two Lovebirds Nest.

My hope for this blog is that it will be a celebration of the new stage of life I am in as well as an exploration of interests that I haven’t previously written about on a regular basis. I have previously written extensively and often exclusively about beauty, fashion and styling.

My focus is now on house/home, decorating, food, lifestyle and relationships. I will also be including travel posts as it is a true passion of mine.

My name is Sarah and I am a mid 20s woman who has had a whirlwind two years. I met a wonderful man, fell in love, we got enagaged, and we purchased our first home together just over six months ago.

Creating a happy, loving home together has been amazing and is definitely inspiration for posts. As written in the about page we get called The Lovebirds and have had fun using that theme in various ways.

Currently we are saving for home projects + our wedding next year {see the countdown on the blog – 1 year, 5 months to go} and are parents to our beautiful, cheeky and loving miniature dachshund puppy called Vader (on IG @vadertheSausageDog &  #vaderthesausagedog).

You can find daily snapshots of my life on my personal IG account @saregiak as well as view our homestyle pictures grouped together using #twolovebirdsnest … Say hi or follow if you like what you see!

I am off to wake up Vader and take him out for a play in the garden. Will post later today.
